The Lion Who Lost His Roar
There’s a story of a lion cub who lost his roar. He woke up one morning and it was gone. He searched and searched and couldn’t find his roar anywhere. He listened to the trees...it wasn’t there. He listened to the giraffes. It wasn’t there. He listened to the breeze. It wasn’t there. He listened to the hyenas. It wasn’t there. He listened to the water. It wasn’t there. He listened to the wind. It wasn’t there. He chased other lions. It wasn’t there. Finally, one day he ran to his father. His dad, having had his eyes fixed across the safari awaiting his son’s return, ran to him and embraced him. As soon as he did, the son let out a glorious ROAR!!! The son then realized, his roar had been with him all along. He only needed to receive his father’s love to remember who he was.
I penned this some time ago, and rediscovered it digging through notes while preparing talks for an upcoming event. I was bit in my feels already from spending time with God going back through my story and remembering what had been lost and what has been restored, and my eyes swelled with tears of gratitude as I read it. The love and gratitude I feel knowing the truest thing about me is that I’m a beloved son is the most settling feeling one could imagine.
Like the lion…long ago, I forgot who I was and became someone I was not. I chased many things seeking life, but was always left wanting. Sure there were things that felt good in the moment. Things that satisfy. But only when I turned and ran into the arms of the Father, have I been able to receive a love that sustains. Only by running into the arms of my Father, has my inner child had permission to begin the journey of growing into the inner man God created me to be. His love has required nothing of me, but my attention, and yet, it’s because of HIs love I’m not capable of being quiet! I have found my roar, and my roar is the delight of my Father.
If you, like me, have been searching everywhere for your roar, I encourage you…Run to The Father. Crawl if you have to! The courage isn’t in your speed it’s in your turn. You will know who you are in His arms. The more you come to know Him, the more you’ll come to know yourself. The more you know your true self, the more you’ll know the Father.
We’re with you and for you. If you need a guide to make the turn, we’re here for you.
